englischThe second edition of La noción de dios en el Timeo de Platón encapsulates the author's recent research, with a new Introduction that brings out the importance of the Timaeus with regard to the mind-body relation and to Plato's late ethics as well as providing fresh and illuminating perspectives on the problems of creation and of the Demiurge, whose philosophical meaning, ontological status, and relation to other levels of divinity are closely analyzed in the remainder of the book.

Both specialist and non-specialist readers will find a wealth of discussion not only on the cosmology and theology of the Timaeus but also its metaphysics, moral philosophy, and philosophical anthropology, placed within the context of the current scholarly debate.

'Gabriela Carone is one of the most knowledgeable Plato scholars writing today. A second edition of her La noción de dios en el Timeo de Platón is a welcome addition to her most recent book Plato's Cosmology and Its Ethical Dimensions (CUP, 2005), not least because in a lengthy Introduction she grapples anew with a number of questions in the dialogue that have divided interpreters from the beginning, and in particular with the thorny issue of whether literalist and non-literalist interpretations of the Demiurge in the Timaeus can ever be reconciled. Her conclusion is that they can, and her reasons for so arguing are not to be missed."
