englischThe study examines the significance of numbers in Plato's metaphysics and philosophy of mathematics with the aim of reassessing the testimonies of Plato in Aristotle. In careful interpretations of Plato's dialogues Politeia, Timaeus and Parmenides, the significance of numbers for the determinacy of our thinking is revealed. On this basis, the Aristotelian testimonies of Plato's theories of principles, numbers and mathematics are critically assessed and reinterpreted. In some cases, e.g. with regard to the relationship between Platonic ideas and numbers, Aristotle's account is substantially corrected. The study also shows in detail the influence of ancient mathematics on Plato's philosophy.
