englischMost people somehow know what everyday morality is, or rather what it entails. In formulas such as decency, consideration and respect, it is currently often either being demanded or being desired. Nevertheless, it hardly plays a role in ethical theories. Yet everyday life is precisely the context in which most of our existence takes place. Are the existence and validity of everyday morality taken for granted or is it forgotten or even ignored because it is considered unimportant?

This book is an attempt to make the phenomenon of everyday morality visible and easier to understand. It endeavors both to ascertain the phenomena and to clarify concepts as well as to search for traces of their reflection and to consider the value and necessity of everyday morality. These theoretical efforts frame the description of the existing, astonishingly diverse moral validity claims for everyday life. These include normative ideals with a long tradition that continue to exist, as well as normative impulses and attitudes that attempt to respond to new challenges and tasks, for example with regard to climate justice and nature.
