englischThroughout his life, Hans Blumenberg [1920–1996] showed a constant interest in astronomy, first as a historian of modern science and a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz, later as an amateur astronomer and finally as a theorist of world time and an ‘astronoetician’. The essay presented here is based on both published sources and unpublished material from his estate in the German Literature Archive in Marbach and deals with Blumenberg's metaphorology of the cosmos and his history of astronomy, including a review of current metaphors in contemporary astronomy and cosmology in physics.
