englischThe adapted and extended healthcare sector accounts in Germany constitute one part of the country’s macroeconomic accounting. The flow of goods and finances is intertwined with healthcare accounting through the social accounting matrix, input-output accounts and healthcare expenditure, from which manifold potential uses result.

This study examines the economic footprint of healthcare accounting and its effect on income distribution. It discusses how the secondary healthcare market can ease the healthcare sector’s burdens and how foreign trade can affect the financing of statutory health insurance. It also looks at increases in healthcare sector productivity, in volunteer work and shortages of qualified personnel, and in economic growth. The extensive tables and diagrams in this study reveal trends which span many sectors as well as those which are specific to only one.
