englischLand-use changes, in particular the deforestation of natural forests for the agricultural development or forest management, account for a large proportion of anthropogenic activities which are harmful to the climate. Therefore, forest conservation can significantly contribute to climate protection. In this regard, one instrument is the REDD+ mechanism ("Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries”). Under the REDD+ mechanism, industrialised countries and other donors will compensate developing and emerging countries through various forms of funding for their protection of forests and thus avoid emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. In this paper, the author develops a profile of requirements for the implementation of REDD+, taking into account property rights, land tenure, biodiversity conservation, and ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples who often live in affected forests. The study focuses in particular on Peru and analyses the extent to which the legal framework is ready for an implementation.
