englischLeadership is an art that can be taught. The authors of this volume define good leadership and explain why we need it, where and how it is taught, and what tools can be used to exercise it in a globalizing world. The book addresses the link between morality and leadership, leadership within and against elites, the use of dialogue, and the opportunities for leadership in globalization. It presents case studies on social entrepreneurship, university reform, and international development. Particular attention is paid to German cultural traits with respect to leadership, which have their roots in recent German history. This is the first book to present an exhaustive overview on leadership training in Germany, including a presentation of the four new German public policy schools and leadership development for international organizations and within political parties. In addition to McCloy alumni of the past 25 years, many of them working in public and private sector leadership positions today, Harvard academics Joseph Nye and Barbara Kellerman and German public policy schools pioneers Gesine Schwan, Michael Zürn, and Karl-Rudolf Korte have contributed to this volume. With a preface by Kurt Biedenkopf.
