englischLaw is a means to fight discrimination – more than ever since the enactment of the Federal German Equal Treatment Act (AGG) in 2006. State agencies and civil society organizations are struggling to improve the protection against discrimination. But how can they assess the effects of the law and find its loopholes? How do their interventions bring the AGG to life? This study takes an ethnographic perspective on processes of legal mobilization around the AGG and Berlin’s Neutrality Act. It pursues the question towards which moral values and drafts of a better future people orient their actions when mobilizing law as an instrument to counter discrimination.
