englischOtto Hintze (1861–1940), the most important German historian of the first half of the 20th century, devoted himself intensively to the modern state, its history and anatomy, its constitution, administration, and geopolitical situation. On this basis, referring to Max Weber’s sociological methods and findings, he dealt with the theories of the state as they were developed in constitutional law, sociology, and historiography in the early 20th century. The surgical precision of his historical-sociological perspective is still impressive today. His sociology of the state is groundbreaking basic research, but also a passionate analysis of the fate of the contemporary German state. Otto Hintze (1861–1940), der bedeutendste deutsche Historiker der ersten Hälfte des 20. Auf dieser Grundlage und mit Rückgriff auf Max Webers soziologische Methode und Erkenntnisse setzte er sich mit den Staatstheorien auseinander, wie sie in der Staatsrechtslehre, Soziologie und Geschichtswissenschaft im frühen 20. Jahrhundert entwickelt wurden. Bis heute beeindruckt die kühle Präzision seines historisch-soziologischen Blicks. Seine Soziologie des Staates ist Grundlagenforschung, daneben aber auch leidenschaftliche Analyse des Schicksals des deutschen Staates seiner Gegenwart. Seine globalgeschichtliche Perspektive und seine nüchterne Analyse der machtpolitischen Grundlagen des europäischen Staatensystems machen ihn zu einem eminent aktuellen Autor.
