englischThis comparative legal study on party financing opens up a very sensitive area of Poland’s democracy to German-speaking readers. When one is analysing a young democracy like Poland, one can observe particular regulatory models in the same way as if one was examining the contents of a test tube because of the different endeavours that have been made to reorganise its legal framework since 1989. Even quite established systems like the German system may gather new findings from such an approach.

Party financing in Poland oscillates between the parties’ self-sufficiency and full state funding. This thesis presents and evaluates the causes and effects of this development, and shows their impact on the party system. The author subsequently suggests ways in which not only Poland’s party financing system could be restructured, but also in which the German system could be reformed.
