englischRebound effects are the unintended consequences of many efforts to foster a reduction of energy and resource use. At the same time, rebound effects show that saved and reinvested money and time enable us to experience life and realise opportunities.

The book provides a comprehensive empirical analysis of time and income effects in Germany derived from sociological theories on social acceleration and an experience society. The author focuses on testing a triple dividend of working time reductions – resource conservation, social engagement and individual life satisfaction. With respect to the first dividend, time use rebound effects may compensate a reduction of resource use relevantly. However, the second and third dividend in terms of increased voluntary engagement and individual life satisfaction put the results on rebound effects into perspective. They manifest the intended consequences of rebound effects.
