englischThe COVID-19 pandemic has presented significant challenges to the criminal justice process. This study uses the COVID-19 pandemic to illustrate how these can be addressed in the future. The difficulties encountered in detention cases during a pandemic are also presented. In addition to an intensive examination of existing regulations, the work develops and discusses proposals for new regulations. In doing so, the work explores the use of technical means – especially audiovisual transmission. The author demonstrates the need for a pandemic german code of criminal procedure. In addition, the paper examines the extent to which pandemic-related considerations can be applied generally in criminal proceedings for reasons of proportionality.
