englischIn the second part of this study on studying at university with a disability, Petra Stemmer analyses in particular how a person’s imperceptible physical impairments affect their ability to study. Using detailed qualitative surveys of disabled students and those employed by universities to advise and work with them, she demonstrates, for example, the diverse cultural demands of a university environment, plus the difficulty of trying to offset any disadvantages they might experience and of finding alternatives to them.

This study aims to reach out to not only decision makers, advisers and lecturers at universities, but to both disabled and able-bodied students in particular. It endeavours to raise awareness, sensitise all those involved to the problem, encourage them to identify with it and suggest courses of action.

Prof. Dr. Clemens Dannenbeck, www.socialnet.de, September 2018
