englischUnion law contains a number of requirements for the loss of nationality. These can be derived from various Union freedoms. In this context, the right to freedom of movement under Art. 21 TFEU and the right to respect for private and family life under Art. 7 EU Charter are central. In addition, the Member States must also comply with the requirements of equality rights and the general principles of law. Citizenship of the Union, from which the ECJ derives far-reaching requirements, is another central source of EU law requirements.

These requirements give rise to a number of conflicts for both German nationality law and the nationality law of other Member States.
