englischThis book focuses on the relationship between people and the world, understanding ‘perception’ as a construct that requires specific contextualisation. Particular attention is paid to the variables of space, time, self and other, and understandings of the world from different traditions are considered, such as Otto von Freising's medieval interpretation of the world, Georg Forster's enlightened thinking, Clifford Geertz's modern view of globalisation and the indigenous world concept of Black Elk, a Lakota Sioux. The analysis focuses primarily on cultural fault lines and commonalities, and the work is intended as a humanities contribution to interest in brain and consciousness processes.
