englischThe work examines the Alexandrias of the Jesuit Alegre in an in-depth, text-immanent analysis. In this context, the historical sources (Curtius Rufus, Flavius Josephus) as well as the poetic models (Vergil, Homer, Lucan and others) are analysed.

All passages of the work are examined in detail, the literary references to the Alexander tradition are identified and connections are drawn not only to ancient, but also to medieval and modern authors and texts. A separate chapter is devoted to potential contemporary references to and interpretations of the Alexandrias. In addition, the three levels of the epic poem, i.e., the historical-antique, the antique-mythological and the Jewish-monotheistic level, are equally taken into account.
