englischThe Association of German Music Schools (Verband Deutscher Musikschulen) is committed to inclusion as a guiding principle. With reference to the school culture model according to Werner Helsper and colleagues, the work focusses on the guiding principle and its effects on the institutional self-image. To reconstruct the institutional self-image group discussions were carried out at music schools and evaluated by using the documentary method. So it is possible to identify institutional contradictions that both students and teachers have to deal with: music school cultures are cultures of competition and participation and inclusion are negotiable and fragile.
