englischOlivier Messiaen's (1908-1992) influence on 20th-century music history extends far beyond his native France and has been widely echoed throughout the world. As a composer, organist, theorist and music writer, Messiaen significantly expanded our understanding of music as a universal spiritual and sensual force. The two-volume book project "Olivier Messiaen - Texte, Analysen, Zeugnisse" takes this significance into account. After the selection translation from the "Traité de rythme, de couleur et d'ornithologie" in the first volume, the second volume is dedicated to the historical and analytical context of Messiaen's work. In addition to Messiaen's Erasmus speech, it contains two texts by Pierre Boulez and Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen that have not previously appeared in German, as well as contributions by Messiaen interpreters and researchers Karl-Anton Rickenbacher and Almut Rößler, plus Anne Liebe, Konstantin Esterl, Wolfgang Rathert, Oliver Vogel, Klaus Schweizer, Stefan Keym, Tobias Janz, Werner Strinz and Herbert Schneider.
