englischMusical heroines rarely feature in the discourse on heroes. Vocal power is the hallmark of their heroic deeds. Narratives of the enchantment date back to the mythical sirens and inspire both musical and literary fantasies. While the heroic aura radiates onto the female singers, pioneers of electronic music act as silent heroines. With fixed media music and the construction of hybrid and virtual voices, perception and meaning are changing. Are female vocoders heroines? The articles address this topic from music and cultural-theoretical as well as literary, artistic, and academic perspectives.
