englischThis book enables a change of perspective on the perceptions of the narrative voices and characters of the four novels it examines, but also of the Senegalese-born authors Mariama Bâ, Fatou Diome, Ken Bugul and Marie NDiaye herself. The literary ethnological method of ‘ethnocritique’ and a perspective that is as Afrocentric as possible reveal misinterpretations of the novels. These are due to common Eurocentric methods of textual analysis because culturally influenced concepts such as ‘jom’, which originates from Senegalese society, are difficult to fathom using conventional literary methods. This book is intended as a prime example of ‘close reading’ in terms of the decolonisation of the sciences.
